The Scottish Border’s Hogmanay Information

The programme for this year’s Hogmanay is now complete, and we’ll just be adding some final touches between now and then. As always we have tried to create an interesting, varied and above all entertaining festival that will give visitors and locals alike a real slice of Border life to remember, and an appetite for more.
There are two main concerts this year, one in Hawick featuring the best band in Teviothead, Carlenjig, and local favourites Scocha, who recently played to an audience of 3000 and have been appearing on various television programmes (including Crimewatch, I believe). The other will be in Denholm with 2D, featuring the song-writing talents of Dave Finnie and the singing of Debbie Lyons, and the truly fantastic band with the amazing guitarist (all right, then, me!) Real Time. Also included in the programme is a mysterious tour of Hawick devised by the inimitable Shankend Mac culminating in a special performance by the extremely talented Single Malt. These line-ups are all made up of local musicians, giving our event its totally unique Border flavour.

Each New Year’s Day, come hail, rain or shine (probably all three!) we organise a walk through the beautiful Border countryside. These walks always include a few musical (and liquid) surprises, so they serve the joint purpose of blowing away the cobwebs and providing the hair of the dog to those of us who will definitely need it! This year we plan to walk in the vicinity of the Ale Water and Ashkirk, with our leaders concentrating on the history of Border Farming, and weather permitting ending with a fascinating sheepdog demonstration by a local shepherd. Afterwards there will be a traditional Herd’s Supper with a menu of typical Border Food, accompanied by a full programme of entertainment including songs, stories, poetry and drama to close a truly unforgettable day.
Check out the full programme. Look forward to seeing you here!!
